Salomon BONATTI WATERPROOF FIVE PANEL Review

The Salomon 5 panel hat is my go to throughout fall and spring in the Pacific Northwest when it's misty or rainy, but a bit to warm for me to want to have a hood on while running. For me it's the waterproof bill that really does it for me. The rain just dribbles off and I can focus on running not in wiping my eyes clear. I tend to match this with a waterproof jacket with no hood, so it does the job of a good for me, but without all the heat retention. Basically in the PNW it's misty/rainy at around 50 degrees for what feels like months and I get to hot in a hood so this hat gives me the protection I need with also the airflow around my neck and face that a hood takes away. My only real complaint is that the adjustable strap on back can loosen over long runs. I typically have to stop around mile 9 or 10 to tighten it back up

Adjustable Strap

The adjustable head strap

So here is the strap mentioned before. It is great for getting it cinched down and right around my head for my runs, however I wish it just stayed locked in a bit better, I will say that this tends to be a problem on some of my other hats as well. I also wish that I could tuck the extra strap length into the hat like some of my other hats so, but not that big of a deal.

The waterproof brim

Brim

This is the waterproof brim that really makes me like this hat so much. Even on super rainy runs it just just throws that water right off and I can see clearly with no water getting into my eyes. Great brim on this hat.

Bonatti Waterproof fabric

The Fabric

This is Salomon's in house waterproof/breathable fabric. I have a few items from them that have this material. It's no high end gortex, but does breath pretty well and unless it's warm and wet the fabric tends to stay not clammy. Biggest issue is I dontend to wet out on the main part of my hat if the rain is really coming down. It could be and issue with me sweating into the fabric as well. Not quite sure. Either way it does well for a breathable waterproof fabric.
